The first half of “Planes” is horribly derivative. It’s like watching “Cars” with “Planes.” There’s the lead plane, Dusty Crophopper, who wants to be in a big race. He’s in a middle-of-nowhere rural town, wanting to break free into stardom. He’s got a best friend truck, Chug, who’s not all there but still makes a great pal. He eventually finds guidance under a gruff old retired plane, Skipper, whose own,Daniels was working from an Oscar-winning script by Geoffrey Fletcher, but here he has a rather pedestrian screenplay by Danny Strong, who scripted the TV movies “Recount,” about the 2000 election, and “Game Change,” about the 2008 election. “It’s his world, we’re just living in it,” Cecil’s father tells the boy (really?). In an exchange with his own son, Louis (Oyelowo), whose Black Pantherism is yanking dad’s chain watch lee daniels the butler onlinewatch we're the millers onlinewatch planes onlinewatch planes onlinewatch instructions not included online
